  • Poster from the COSROP/COSEIN/COSIA workshop held June 5-6, 2013

  • Thanks everyone for a great workshop at LHS this week. As promised, I have uploaded the instructional modules I have been working on that focus on integrating Native and Western Science into ocean science education. I have also uploaded a PDF of the poster summarizing our work in this area that was displayed at LHS during our workshop.

  • This document is a collection of instructional modules that are intended to help scientists and educators foster a more inclusive learning and research environment, specifically through awareness of differences between Native and Western perspectives on science and access to resources that provide Native American perspectives on climate change and…[Read more]

  • I’m the Curator of Ecology at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. I am also a marine ecologist with an focus on kelp forest ecosystems. I’m going to be part of the University of Southern California COSIA course this coming fall and wanted to see what I can pick up from others who have been doing this for a while.

Recommended COSIA Textbooks: Surrounded by Science and Learning Science in Informal Environments

August 3, 2011 in COS Resource, Course and Workshop Materials, Course Materials

The National Academies Press published two books that we recommend to use as textbooks for Communicating Ocean Sciences to Informal Audiences. Surrounded by Science was written for informal educators and is appropriate for undergraduate students. Learning Science in Informal Environments is the research version of the book and is better suited for graduate students. Both [...]
